Provincial nomination schemes play a key role in allowing immigration to Canada. Whilst the government provides a number of Federal Immigration schemes, each province has entered into an agreement with Citizenship and Immigration Canada whereby they are able to expedite the immigration process by supplying immigrant applicants with a certificate of nomination.

The certificate of nomination is submitted with the application to Citizenship and Immigration Canada whereby they carry out the fit and proper tests, such as medical, security and background checks.
