Role Definition:
The mission of the post holder is to provide consultancy and support services on a specific set of Microsoft platforms. This role covers all aspects of the infrastructure services from disaster recovery design and implementation.

This role requires an enthusiast seasoned ICT professional, who is self-driven, imaginative, result oriented and has a clear focus on high quality and customer satisfaction. Incumbent will be required to work extended hours on occasions and be on standby for out of hours support and project work.

Education: Essential Desirable/Advantage
  • Grade 12 certificate
  • MCSE 2000/2003 qualified with , Small business server 2003 (preferred) or Windows XP desktop, ISA server, Exchange server
  • Min 5 year’s practical experience in corporate environment with emphasis on messaging and/or active directory
  • Knowledge of industry best practice in service delivery
  • Expert knowledge in TCP/IP protocols, wireless and Ethernet networks
  • Knowledge on a range of ICT hardware and software systems
  • MCSE 2003
  • MCP’s- SBS 2003,MOM, SMS,ISA , MCSE 2003
  • ITIL/MOF understanding
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft technologies
  • Diploma in Computer Science or B.Sc – Computer Science
 
Competencies: The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge and extensive support experience of the following:

  • TCP/IP networking
  • Wireless server / network hardware
  • MS office desktop applications
  • Significant experience and proficiency in design of IT solutions at enterprise level for small and medium size businesses up to 500 users in a WAN environment
  • Well developed problem solving and problem management skills gained from experience working in a complex and challenging environment with a range of technologies and hardware infrastructure
  • Strong organizational and leadership qualities
  • Personal qualities must include; integrity, self-belief and awareness, self management and a drive for continuous improvement.
  • Professionalism in order to interact with clients in situations that are often stressful
  • Effective communication, influencing skills and stakeholder management skills are all pre-requisites for this post
  • Understanding of the complex interaction between people, process and technology
 
Experience: Essential Desirable
  • Minimum of 5 years commercial experience working in a customer facing role supporting the following systems windows XP, MS server 2003 or small business server, MS exchange, ISA server
  • 12 months providing 3rd line support on Microsoft platforms- Active directory, Windows server, Exchange, ISA and Windows XP
  • Ability to install, configure and troubleshoot Windows XP desktop, Windows server, Small business server in a network environment (up to 50 users) unaided
  • Expert in use and support of MS office suite of applications, Windows XP, MS Outlook , MS server and Internet browser
  • Excellent network support skills, able to trouble shoot wireless and Ethernet networks
  • Able to maintain professionalism whilst dealing with clients in situations that are often stressful
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills- ability to explain and relay technical information to customers
  • 12 months experience working in consulting role and delivery of 3 large projects 150+ network
  • Ability to consistently meet personal targets
  • Previous hands on experience of disaster recovery on Exchange 2000/2003 and or Windows server 2000/2003
  • Previous experience with Microsoft SQL server
  • Experience and knowledge of Microsoft ISA 2000/2004 server
  • Previous disaster recovery of Microsoft ISA 2000/2004 server
  • Security auditing
  • Exposure to Vista, MOM or SMS for operations management
 
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Consult, install and support a range of Microsoft products and network devices
  • Design, plan and implement technical projects for medium size business (up to 500 users) in a complex configuration involving a number of Microsoft products
  • Provide leadership to project team as part of the execution of medium sized projects
  • Undertake ad-hoc disaster discovery on Exchange and Active directory including design of DR solutions for implementation
  • Act as a problem management resource and final point of escalation for incidents escalated through the support tiers
  • Act as technical consultant, offering advice and support to aid customer solution
  • Provide diagnosis, identification and resolution of network related incidents on customer sites
  • Provide value added services to customers through effective business environment analysis and enabling client to leverage the benefits of IT for operations and strategic application.

  • Valid South African driver’s license
  • Provide effective leadership and guidance to Tier 2 resources and assist with professional development through active knowledge transfer
  • Work autonomously and lead a team of technicians in delivery of technical projects
  • Ability to think holistically and translate customers chosen strategy into actions to deliver value added services
  • Effective incident request prioritisation and work management to meet agreed service level agreements
  • Ownership of personal development in particular self learning to undertake Microsoft product certification
  • Using excellent organisation skills to manage complex project often against demanding deadlines
  • Self motivated, dynamic and intuitive
  • Ability to co-ordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to prioritise and make appropriate trade-offs
  • Ability to thrive in a high-stress operations environment with often conflicting requirements on the resources under management
  • Able to assimilate new information quickly
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all types of customers and able to build relationships – winning the confidence of colleagues at all levels and customers
