Simon’s Town - General Description

Simon’s Town is positioned on the Eastern side of the Cape Peninsula, on the shores of False Bay. Resembling a quaint Victorian seaside town, Simons Town is rich in Naval and architectural history and natural beauty. Founded in 1743 by Simon van de Stel, the Governor of the Cape at the time, and handed over to South Africa’s Navy in 1957. The town rises steeply above the harbour up the mountain side. Simon’s Town is full of Cape History and strange legends and tales. Simon’s Town boasts a multicultural heritage. Many of the properties have dazzling sea views across False Bay and are build in the Victorian and Cape Dutch styles.

Roman Rock Lighthouse is the 3rd oldest lighthouse in South Africa and the only one built on a rock. You will find the Toy Museum in Simon’s Town and the Topstones World and Scratchpatch, a semi-precious gem factory. Simon’s Town has Bolders Beach just outside of town on the way to Cape Point, where you can see the penguins and walk along the board walk through the nesting area. The water is ideal for swimming as it is calm and flat, and warmer than in most area’s.
