Tier 1 Visa
Previously known as the highly skilled migrant visa. The Tier 1 Visa can be granted to individuals without the need for a job offer.
Tier 2 Visa
Tier 2 Visas are aimed at allowing the UK to accept migrant applications for work visas that will help to fill shortages in the UK labour market. A confirmed job offer is required.
Youth Mobility
Previously known as a working holiday visas. The Youth Mobility Scheme is only available to those who have citizenship of a country with a reciprocal agreement in place.
Tourist Visa
For those thinking of going to the UK on holiday or on a business trip, certain nationalities require tourist visa to be obtained prior to entry into the UK.
This permit is also referred to as a de facto visa. The unmarried partner visa for immigration to the UK has been available since 1997 and applies to people who have indefinite leave to stay or settled status in the UK wishing to bring their foreign partners to join them.
The unmarried partner’s visa does not require you to be married, be in a civil partnership or to get married within certain amount of time. It can be more difficult than these types of visa as there is a requirement that you can prove you have been living together for a 2 year period of time. This category, unmarried partner UK visa, can be compared to a marriage or civil partnership, just not in law.
The unmarried partner UK visa can be applied for by both heterosexual and same sex partners of European Economic Area and UK citizens who can prove co-habitation for the last two years.
Sufficient documentary proof must be provided to establish cohabitation of two years to obtain the UK unmarried visa, examples are joint financial commitments, such as a mortgage, and shared expenses such as utility bills and joint bank accounts.
The unmarried partner (applying for the UK unmarried partner visa) must have attained the age of 16 and the sponsor (citizen) must have attained 18 years of age.
The couple must plan to live together permanently in the UK in suitable and available accommodation that can be paid for without reliance on public funds.
For applicants under the UK unmarried partner visa that can prove cohabitation of 4 years or more an application for indefinite leave to stay can be made.
Applicants who can prove the minimum of two years but less than four years are granted an initial ‘probationary period’ of two years. After this two year period, assuming the relationship still complies with the legislation an application can be made for indefinite leave of absence.
Applicants under the UK unmarried partner visa category need to demonstrate that they posses sufficient funds for the unmarried partner to be supported without recourse to public funds.
