At Intergate, we assign an immigration consultant to each of our business divisions. The UK is a large division for us, and Jaime Catala is the consultant who looks after our UK clients.
Originally from the UK himself, Jaime understands the experiences of our UK clients and can relate to their specific concerns.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of dealing with Jaime yet, you can get to know him a bit better right here and now. You’ll find his contact details at the end of the interview – please feel free to use them if you’re currently contemplating emigration from the UK.
Q: How did South Africa become your new home?
My wife is South African, we were both living in London and we’d been to Cape Town on holidays three times to visit family and friends. During our last trip, we decided to make the move and three years later… here we are, loving life. Best decision ever!
Q: What was the biggest lesson you learned from your own immigration?
Going through the visa process myself, I know how important it is to plan well ahead! Since I started working for Intergate, I’ve had the opportunity to deal with clients who are in a very similar situation to where I was four years ago. It’s a great feeling to chat to people who are excited about their dream move to SA!
Q: Tell us a bit more about your journey with Intergate Immigration so far.
Every day is a different story, and this is what I love the most. Every phone call, every email… it’s always a different scenario. To be part of the Client Managers team at Intergate is a very rewarding job role. I must admit and say that my colleagues have been excellent help since day one. We have a very strong team morale and we assist each other in every way possible.
Q: What has been your best moment working in immigration so far?
Having the opportunity to assist with someone’s dream move fascinates me the most. The best feeling is when a client contacts you to say they’ve received their visas for SA. I’m often reminded of when I received an email from Intergate saying that my visa has been approved!
Q: What do you find frustrating about working in immigration?
The most frustrating thing is having to rely on external factors, for example, the lengthy processing times set by the Department of Home Affairs. This is really something we cannot control, yet sometimes it looks negatively on what we do as a company.
Q: From your experience, why do our clients move to South Africa?
If you were living abroad, wouldn’t you be tempted to move to this beautiful country? I’d say the reasons why foreign nationals move to SA is mainly because of the fantastic weather and secondly because of the quality of life. Some use SA as a holiday destination because of the good exchange rates; this seems to attract Europeans, Americans, Australians, etc.
Q: What do you love most about living in South Africa?
Having the amazing outdoor lifestyle at your finger tips, from the beaches, mountain trekking, to wine tasting, etc. SA to me is the best country in the world!
Q: What is your favourite destination in South Africa?
I have to be bias here and say that Cape Town is by far my favourite destination in SA. To me Cape Town is the full package, everything you want or need is right here. After living in Cape Town for nearly four years, I still feel like I’m on holiday, it is such a great place.
