If you are in the process of applying for residency in South Africa or considering an application you need to read the below.
New immigration regulations will be coming into force in the very near future. Whilst the date has not been confirmed we expect this to happen by May or June this year. Note that although unlikely it could occur as early as March so applicants and prospective applicants need to plan now.
These changes will a profound effect on where you can submit your application and you need to plan accordingly.
What is the new rule?
No first time permit application can be made in South Africa – in laymans terms you will not be able to enter South Africa on a visitors visa and then apply for a temporary immigration permit.
Where will I have to apply?
Applications will have to be made abroad.
What action must I take?
There are 2 options for you:
- If your intention is to submit in South Africa this needs to happen as soon as possible.
- We would however strongly recommend, as we have been for many months, you submit your application abroad. Not only will this safeguard against the new regulations but has the added bonus of currently being a quicker process.
In the event you have not submitted your application and are in South Africa when the new regulations are published you would be made to return to your country of origin to submit your application and await its conclusion.
