The Department of Home Affairs has extended the validity of visitor visas of individuals who have been unable to return home due to the COVID-19 pandemic until 30 June 2021.
What are the eligibility criteria?
The visitor visa extension only applies to visas issued for less than 90 days which expired during the national state of disaster.
The extension does not apply to:
- Visas issued for more than 90 days up to 3 years, study visas, treaty visas, business visas, medical treatment visas, general work visas, critical skills work visas, retired person visas, and exchange visas which expired during the national state of disaster. These visa holders must apply for extensions or new visas on or before 31 July 2021; and
- Any visa or permit obtained on or after, or to persons who entered South Africa on or after, 15 March 2021.
