If you are considering making an application for a life partner or spousal permit you are probably wondering whether it entitles you to work or run a business or study. This is where the question of endorsing your life partner or spousal visa comes into consideration.

Benefits of the life partner and spousal visa

If the criteria for a spousal permit or life partner permit is met then permanent residency will be granted.

No further permissions needed

In addition to being this benefit applicants will be pleased to note that upon receipt of their permanent residence they need never apply for an endorsement in the future and are only required to provide one notification (within 2 years of receipt of permanent residence) that the relationship continues to exist in order to retain permanent residence.

A plan B

There is often a need though for the applicant to not only apply for a spousal or life partner permit but also a visa under the same category.

The reason for this is one of timing. The Department Of Home Affairs can take up to 2 years to process a spousal or life partner permit application, this time period often does not fit in with the applicants travel plans as they wish to come to South Africa sooner.

What is important to note is that a life partner or spousal visa only affords you temporary residency and as such you will be required to looking at endorsing your visa.
