No, employment is not permitted. The visa is designed for financially self-sufficient retirees. If you want to work, run a business or study, you’ll have to apply for an appropriate visa.
The Retirement Visa is valid for four years and is renewable.
By law, you must apply from abroad through a VFS centre or SA embassy. Tourist visa holders cannot convert in-country to a Retired visa. Some exceptions may apply such as being married to a South African. Speak to one of our consultants to learn more.
Your spouse, life partner, and children may apply alongside your Retired Visa application as accompanying dependents. Children of school-going age also have the option to apply for a study visa, allowing them to attend school in South Africa.
